The Cross of Christ Kills Porn

The Cross of Christ Kills Porn

Our understanding of the cross must go as deep as Scripture.

A shallow understanding of why Jesus died on the cross will not suffice to deal with a sin so deeply embedded in the imagination and the soul. Hence, the first point poignantly develops six main characteristics of the cross.

These six points are applied to the spiritual and moral consequences of pornographic activity; such as an overwhelming sense of powerlessness, devastating guilt, and loneliness, etc.

I. Characteristics of the cross of Christ

A. The cross of Jesus Christ is where the love of God removed the wrath of God so that we can live as his sons for his glory – forever and ever.
1 John 4:10, 2:1 – 2, Hebrews 2:17, Romans 3:25, John 17:24

B. The cross of Jesus Christ was planned by the Trinity before the foundation of the world
1 Corinthians 1:2:7 – 9, Revelation 13:8, 2 Timothy 1:9 – 10

C. The cross of Jesus Christ infuses the power for destroying idolatrous worship.
1 Corinthians: 1 – 5, 1 Thessalonians 1:5, 9

D. The cross of Jesus Christ brings us vertically to the throne of grace and mercy and horizontally to a new family of believers.
Hebrews 10:19 – 24

E. The cross of Jesus Christ conquered and continues to defeat the bloody attacks, tricks, conniving’s and schemes of Satan and his minions.
John 12:31, Colossians 2:14 – 15, Revelation 12:11

F. The cross of Jesus Christ was a crucifixion, the pain and shame of which is beyond comprehension.
Psalm 22:6 – 7, 12 – 21, Galatians 3:13

II.  Application of the Cross to Destroying Pornography

The application of these characteristics of the cross are pertinent to dealing with pornography. As a matter of fact, if any method is used that does not begin, continue, and conclude with the cross, all efforts will be minimally successful and will not reach the high goals of the glory of God and a pure heart.

The following applications are based upon two presuppositions. First, the cross is the superior affection and power that expels the morally dark affections of pornography. Secondly, gazing at the cross by faith is the new habit that exposes the imagination and heart to the central truth of all reality.

Application 1

Gazing at the pain and indescribable suffering of the cross will capture the imagination and put to death pornographic imaginations. You must gaze and gaze and gaze at the cross.

Psalm 22:11 – 21, Galatians 3 13 – 14 this is beautifully illustrated in John Piper’s book, Pierced by the Word, p. 70 – 71.

Application 2

Gazing at the cross enables you to see condemnation and guilt laid on a substitute Who removes the condemnation and guilt of pornography.
Luke 18:9 – 14, 1 John 2:1 – 2

Application 3

Gazing at the cross will enable you to see a transcendent glory sought for but never found in pornography.
Romans 1:21 – 23, 2 Corinthians 4:4, 6

Application 4

Gazing at the cross will show you a true picture of Christ’s undeserved shame that removes the shamefulness associated with pornography.
Hebrews 12:1 – 2

Application 5

Gazing at the cross restores the breach made between the happiness of sin covered – a heart practicing deceit filled with despair.
Psalm 32:1 – 2

Application 6

Gazing at the cross gives new power to expel the pretentious power of pornography.
1 Corinthians 2:4 – 5, 1 Thessalonians 1:5

Application 7

Gazing at the cross melts a stony heart made hard and insensitive by pornography.

Colossians 1:1 – 5

Application 8

Gazing at the cross renews fellowship with the heavenly father and his sons and daughters – marred by pornography.
1 John 7, Hebrews 10:22 – 26

Application 9

Gazing at the cross defeats satanic activity intimately involved with pornography.

Colossians 2:14 – 15

Gazing at the cross is the hope filled blazing center for restoring wondrous worship, sweet peace, true happiness, and spontaneous guilt free living.

Gazing at the cross is a powerful grace for living by faith as we walk with our Lord into the future.
